Secuencialmente, el contacto de Ed Hardy con Collins dio lugar a un gran inter\u00e9s del primero por el tatuaje oriental y por eso en 1969, tras mudarse a San Diego, abre un estudio especializado \u00fanicamente en tatuajes japoneses (DeMello 2007). En los a\u00f1os siguientes, tambi\u00e9n con ayuda de Sailor Jerry Hardy conoci\u00f3 a varios tatuadores japoneses y, en consecuencia, pas\u00f3 un a\u00f1o de 1975 trabajando en Jap\u00f3n. Tras su regreso, Don Ed Hardy abri\u00f3 en San Francisco el primer sal\u00f3n de tatuajes de EE.UU. que s\u00f3lo aceptaba clientes con cita previa y s\u00f3lo ofrec\u00eda servicios de tatuajes \u00fanicos personalizados. De hecho, este hecho puede relacionarse con la enemistad de Sailor Jerry hacia la actitud de copia de los tatuadores que influy\u00f3 en Hardy. El estudio, llamado Realistic Tattoo, se convirti\u00f3 en un nivel que todos los tatuadores de EE.UU. intentaban alcanzar, se convirti\u00f3 en un prototipo para todos los salones de tatuaje modernos. Otro logro de Hardy que influy\u00f3 enormemente en el mundo del tatuaje fue su revista TattooTime, que se convirti\u00f3 en la principal fuente de navegaci\u00f3n de moda de Hardy, llevando a la consideraci\u00f3n general estilos como el tribal o el chicano que antes de aparecer en las p\u00e1ginas de TattooTime eran encarnaciones casi estigmatizadas de desagrado y pertenencia a grupos sociales desviados. Aunque TattooTime no fue la primera <a href=\"https:\/\/rightstuff.eu\">revistas de tatuajes<\/a> fue pionera en la determinaci\u00f3n del p\u00fablico objetivo, se dirig\u00eda a la clase media y, aparte de la informaci\u00f3n publicada para los iniciados en la comunidad del tatuaje, conten\u00eda art\u00edculos con fines educativos sobre el tatuaje (DeMello 2007).
